We’ve been away on midlife crisis.

One of our regularly scheduled, every five years or so, midlife re-evaluation of where, what, how, why. It’s when we step back, reevaluate, and decide what is of the greatest importance at each new stage in life.

We are sad to announce that sweet, beautiful Loki has been diagnosed with lymphoma and we do not know how much longer he will be with us. It is not a change any of us want.

160409-SX50-6334Most of the path forward remains the same: passionate about writing and creating stories, collecting and sharing world myth, loving my Bengals and immersing myself in the issues of diversity and inclusion.

There may be a little more on CERT (Citizen Emergency Response Team) and CERT (Cat Emergency Response Team).

Cat Convos will continue.

140927 - - mediumI may never know what is around the bend, but the Hill will continue its meanders through the space/time continuum.

I’m looking forward to sharing the adventure with you.

Human Chrysalis

The last sunrise of 2015 over the Space Needle and Mt. RainierEvery few years, it happens. All the experience, the learning, and the events reach a pinnacle of change where life itself needs to be processed, digested, and reinvented into the new being, the new me.IMG_2494

Some people do this once or twice a lifetime. They sit back, reflect and redefine. They always seem to know who they are. They know their goals and they stride forth confidently into the future. If you are such a person, I envy you.

140708 - - medium-3

Some of us never seem to settle on who we are, what we like and where we’re going. We go and we go and then we cocoon. We each become a human chrysalis. For a while, we withdraw into our burrow, our tower, the safety of what is.

We reprioritize, reassess, and launch. We unfold our wings, once again, confident for a while of who we are and what our purpose is.

,140412 - - medium-14The Bengals have approved the new agendas, though they have a lot to say about the changes taking place (Cat Convo Fridays).

The Hill meanders once again through the space/time continuum.

Monday Mythology and Wednesday Writing will remain. Tuesdays and Thursdays can take us anywhere or may take us back to reposts of old favorites.

IMG_0439There will also be attempts to photograph pictures that tie in far better with metaphors used. Two weeks from now, the focus (pun intended) will be on butterflies and cocoons (better late than never).

Loki, Kuri and Hiyu say they will always fill in, if I don’t have an appropriate picture. The race is on.

As always, I love to hear from you. Send me your comments, let me know of great places to meander, what rabbit holes would be a delight to drop into, and the best adventures to be undertaken.

Cat Convos: Signs of Spring

140412 - - medium-14Kuri: What were you thinking?

Hiyu: I can’t believe you said baby slugs are a sign of spring.

Loki: Yeah, that makes no sense. You have us. Why care about slugs?

IMG_2690

Me: Slugs are surprisingly interesting. Did you know they have thousands of teeth?

Kuri: I don’t want to know that.

Loki: If you want to know it’s spring, I can shed some light on that.WP_20130326_010

Me: I don’t believe you just said that.

Kuri: We’re shedding. Get it? That’s a sure sign of spring.

Hiyu: Anyway, back to us. You’ve been neglecting us.

Me: Don’t think so. We play several times a day and I always give you attention when you ask.

Attentive BengalKuri: You went on vacation.

Loki: Yeah, and left us here to shed on our own.

Me: I came back.

Hiyu: You brought gifts for everyone, but us.

Me: I broke out the catnip and you already had a new toy.

Loki: It’s not enough.IMG_4504-small

Kuri: Why do we only get Fridays? We should have a lot more days on the blog.

Hiyu: Kuri’s right. We can talk about all sorts of things all the time. How could anything be more important than us?

IMG_0359

Me: Readers like to hear about other things too. Not everything is about you and your opinions.

Loki: We can read more books.

20110905-60d-0209-small

Hiyu: I like documentaries too, especially about birds.160405-SX50-IMG_5093

Kuri: I can recite poetry.

Hiyu: I’m very philosophical.

Me: Yes, you guys are great, but you only get Fridays.

It's all looking up from hereKuri: You keep that up and we’ll never stop shedding on you.

Loki: I’ll wake you up in the middle of the night.

Me: You already do all of that.160501-6D-1238

Hiyu: Cat pile on top of her.

Kuri and Loki: Cat pile! Cat pile!

Me: Love you guys too.

Rainbow Hill Meanders III

The last sunrise of 2015 over the Space Needle and Mt. RainierHave you ever gotten up on the wrong side of the year?

The baby slugs are out. When did New Year’s Day turn into late April? It’s certainly not an excuse, but The Hill did take a  hiatus from its meanderings for a full make-over.

150804-SX50-9909

We’ve given up the impressive wall of impenetrable thorns for rockery and native plants. Contrary to popular belief Himalayan blackberries are not native to the Pacific Northwest, but they sure do love it here.

The Hill has even added Hue lights so that on those dark, rain-soaked days there are still rainbows abounding everywhere. http://www2.meethue.com/en-US

Rainbow Hill has resumed its meandering through the space/time continuum. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be catching readers up on its various adventures.

Much to my surprise, Rainbow Hill Meanders now enters its third year. I’m not sure it will ever be grown-up, but it will always be growing and changing through its myriad experiences. However, a few things will remain fixtures here.Redwood National Park

Mythology Monday will tour the world of myth and the cultures that share them with us.

140412 - - medium-14

IMG_4504-small

Cat Convo Friday will remain. The Bengals insist upon it and who am I to deny them their voice.

Writing Wednesday will be competing on a weekly basis with Random Tuesday and the Slightly-Bizarre Thursdays.

Now that we’re no longer distracted welcome to Rainbow Hill Meanders III.

Blogging 101

Like Wow!

Starburst on the FourthIt’s true, I am a writer, a collector words, a vocabulary aficionado, and I just titled this blog post “Like Wow!” complete with exclamation point.

Before there is a mass outcry, let me say in my defense that I believe that one should always choose the most accurate phrasing one can come by and in this case “Like Wow!” is it.

As I said in my last post, I’ve started 2016 with a blogging 101 class. Our last assignment was to write directly to our dream audience (You know who you are) and also to try something new. I think the title counts for something new.

I chose “Like Wow!” because it is the best and most accurate description of my fellow bloggers and the amazing writing I’m discovering. They are an incredibly diverse group of people who taking leaps of courage, of commitment, and of challenge as they put themselves out there for the entire world to see.

I have been amazed by incredible polish, amazing pictures and wit that turns on a dime. I’ve been awed by honesty and vulnerability. There are times when I want to give encouraging hugs and pats on the back. Times when I wish they could hear me laugh and even more times when I want to tell them not to worry so much. I can see them writing with their souls as a canvass and I wish I could tell them how well they’re doing and that the words they want will follow.140608 - - medium-17

Now having said all of that it’s time for cat pictures and an explanation of how this post nearly became titled: The Cats Ate My Homework

Hiyu at a distanceHiyu is a Marbled Bengal.

He loves the crinkling sounds as he bites into paper and plastic. He’d never eat anything outside of tuna or his food, but he is an outstanding thief.

loki 1 30 14

Loki, AKA Lazy Loki, doesn’t know the difference between paper and food. If the other cats are in on it, then he wants a piece of the action. After they’ve caught it.

Kuri plays XboxKuri likes to take responsibility for all of the mischief, even if Loki or Hiyu thought of it first. Hiyu and Loki have their share of stories, but Kuri is the King of Tales.
